CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's tennis team
opens its spring season on Saturday afternoon with a non-conference visit from
USC Upstate at 1 p.m.
The Blue Hose enter the season opener with an experienced
roster under head coach Catherine Dunagan, in her second season at the helm.
Lindsay Krause (Roswell, Ga.) returns for her senior season while juniors
Patricia Alves (Campinas, Brazil) and Lucia Leahy (Charlotte, N.C.) both set
high-water marks in single-season wins last year.
Sophomore Caroline deLoach (Columbia, S.C.) also established
a new freshman D-I record, with 13 singles victories in the 2012 season. She
will be joined by Greer Ransom (Athens, Ga.) as the two second-year players.
Three newcomers join the squad in Haley Elliott (Greenville,
S.C.), Kayla Stanford (Canton, Ga.) and Lovey Sheppard (Sylvania, Ga.). Elliott
helped the Mauldin Mavericks to a SC AAAA Girls High School State Championship
in 2010 and earned SC AAAA All-Region laurels in 2008 and 2009. Stanford Reached
the top 15 in Georgia and the top 30 in the Southern section playing
competitive tennis through the United State Tennis Association and also placed
third in doubles at BullFrog/USTA Southern Section in Memphis, Tenn.
USC Upstate brings a 0-1 record into Saturday's matchup
after falling to South Carolina in Columbia on Monday afternoon, 5-0.
Following Saturday's match, the Blue Hose take on Georgia
Southern in Statesboro, Ga., on Sunday afternoon.
