CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian College's William O'Connell (Nadi, Fiji) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Campbell's Rik Van Gerwen (Valkenswaard, Netherlands) has been named The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week, it was announced today by the League office. 

O'Connell opened the 2013 season with two individual wins. In the No. 2 singles flight against Troy on Friday, he topped his opponent, 6-4, 6-3. He then won the No. 2 flight (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) against USC Upstate on Saturday afternoon. O'Connell was only Blue Hose to win both of his singles matches last week. 

The award marks the first Big South Conference Player of the Week honor for O'Connell and the first of the season for the Blue Hose.

PC next travels to Appalachian State for a Saturday matchup at 1 p.m.
