COLUMBUS, OHIO-Despite being down by 32 points at the end of the first half, the Presbyterian College men's basketball team continued to fight against Ohio State and ultimately outscored the Buckeyes 27 to 25 in the second half. However, it wasn't enough as Ohio State came away with the 78-48 victory.
Walt Allen led the Blue Hose with 13 points, while Khalid Mutakabbir pulled down a team best eight rebounds and chipped in nine points. Freshman Jay Reynolds recorded two steals for PC in game.
Reynolds starting the scoring in the second half, putting PC's first three points on the board to bring the score to 58-25 at the 17:40 mark.
With just under 12 minutes remaining the Blue Hose went on an 11-2 run, starting off a long three point shot by Allen and highlighted by back-to-back baskets by Chase Holmes. The score stood at 70-38 with 9:19 remaining in the half after Mutakabbir sank a layup and the free throw after being fouled on the shot.
Ryan Hargrave sank two free throws with just over a minute remaining to help the Blue Hose outscore the Buckeyes 27-25 in the second half. Along with outscoring Ohio State, PC also held the Buckeyes to no three pointers in the second stanza after they went 52.9 percent from behind the arc in the first half.
Ohio State jumped out to an early 14-0 lead at the beginning of the game before Reynolds sank a layup at the 14:43 mark to put PC on the board. Trailing 26-5 halfway through the first half, Mutakabbir took the reins for the Blue Hose, scoring the next six points on three ensuing possessions. Allen then hit his second three of the game to bring the score to 36-14 with 7:15 remaining.
The Buckeyes extended their lead to 25 points after their seventh three pointer of the half, and would take a 53-21 lead into the locker rooms at half time.
PC falls to 2-9 on the year with the loss, while Ohio State moves to 8-2. The Blue Hose remain on the road and return to action on Saturday when they face Dayton at 8 p.m. EST.
